Fiction Writing

For my academic monograph, check here.

I began writing fiction early in life, starting with poetry and short stories, then moving on to theatre scenes and plays, followed by children’s books co-written with my wonderful wife, and, most recently, a fantasy novel.

  • Children's Books (with Rachel Seelig): A Moustache for Carlo (2013), Lovely (2014), and The Chestnut’s Three Wishes (2021). They were beautifully illustrated by Rachel’s father, Michael Seelig, and are available in English and in German. Please check out  our Children’s Books Website. Here is an interview about the project: “‘Every word counts’ say scholars turned children’s book authors” (UofT Website, 22 Sep. 2021)

  • I’ve been adapting plays and writing scenes since the mid-1990s, when I first became involved in theatre. After founding Theater DU (German Theatre Toronto) in 2010, this work gained momentum. In 2012, I created Drakul(j)a, an adaptation of Bram Stoker’s novel, and in 2016, I wrote Deutsch vom Fass – An Educational Journey in Nine Scenes for the 150th anniversary of UofT’s German Department.

  • I’ve been working on a fantasy novel, Der Abgrund der Fantasie (working title), for many years. It began as a children’s book in the late 1990s and grew significantly during a two-year stay in Thessaloniki (2004–2006). After moving to Canada for an academic position, the project paused—until a sabbatical in Tel Aviv (2013–14) reignited it. I completed the manuscript and am currently looking for publishers.
