A Bit About Me
I’m of Turkish-German background, born and raised in Germany, with academic and personal chapters spanning multiple countries. Since 2006, I’ve made Toronto, Canada, my home.
I’m Associate Professor of German at the University of Toronto, where I teach German literature, language, and theatre.
My teaching has been recognized with the Faculty of Arts and Science Outstanding Teaching Award (2019) and the Innovate German Award from the Canadian Association of University Teachers of German (2020).
My academic monograph, Die Geschichte des türkisch-deutschen Theaters und Kabaretts - Vier Jahrzehnte Migrantenbühne in der Bundesrepublik (1961-2004), was published in 2022 with transcript Verlag.
My essay Mein jüdisches Paradox was published in 2026 with the journal MERKUR.
I completed my book manuscript Der Unsichtbare Schnurrbart: Autofiktionen and am currently seeking publication. I am also looking for a publisher for my completed fantasy novel, bearing the working title Der Abgrund der Fantasie.
