A Bit About Me
I’m of Turkish-German background, born and raised in Germany, with academic and personal chapters spanning Italy, the US, Turkey, Greece, and Israel. Since 2006, I’ve made Toronto, Canada, my home.
I’m Associate Professor of German at the University of Toronto, where I teach German literature, language, and theatre, and direct the student theatre ensemble Theater DU.
My teaching has been recognized with the Faculty of Arts and Science Outstanding Teaching Award (2019) and the Innovate German Award from the Canadian Association of University Teachers of German (2020).
My academic monograph, Die Geschichte des türkisch-deutschen Theaters und Kabaretts - Vier Jahrzehnte Migrantenbühne in der Bundesrepublik (1961-2004), was published in 2022 with transcript Verlag.
Most recently, I completed a German fantasy novel of 250,000 words, working title Der Abgrund der Fantasie, and am currently looking for a publisher.
